but it doesn't usually slow him down.
Sometimes instead of lecturing, he'll make a big show of *not* lecturing. Like, he'll hover and say "I shouldn't say anything". Again and again.
And a lot of the time, he's just completely full of shit. He has a number of theories about how planers and joiners work, for example, and he'll tell me about them over and over and over. I can demonstrate that his theories are wrong by doing the thing he claims should be impossible. But he remains invulnerable to evidence. Or maybe he just forgets?
His memory has always been pretty terrible and its getting worse.
I try to explain to him that by talking so goddam much, he trains people to tune him out and ignore him - its too difficult to pick out valuable stuff from the endless stream of chatter he emits. But he just can't help himself.
Mom if far beyond any real capacity for conversation or, I think, even comprehension of anything other than the most simple ideas. Yet when she's with him, and he's blabbing away, she will say things like "uh-huh" and "really?" right one queue. Its like primal muscle memory unaffected by her Alzheimer's.
